Baptisms & Thanksgivings
THANKSGIVINGS
This service designed for those who wish to thank God for the birth of their child. The promises you make are more general than in the baptism service and are about your desire to have God watch over and bless your child. It takes place during the Sunday morning services. If you decide, you can move to a baptism at a later date. Please note a date cannot be booked until you have met with the Minister. Please call the office on 9523 5124 to arrange.
INFANT BAPTISMS
Baptism is an acknowledgement of a personal Christian faith, acknowledging Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and involves a desire to repent - express sorrow - for those things which we have done which offend God. In infant baptism, parents and Godparents make particular promises on behalf of their children so that they may learn about Jesus and come to put their faith in Him as they mature. As such, some preparation is involved with our Minister, prior to the Baptism taking place. Baptisms at Cronulla are usually held during our Family Service at 10:30am. A date cannot be booked until you have met with Minister. We suggest coming along to our 10:30am service and/or call the office.
ADULT BAPTISMSAs above, the same is true for adult Baptism, where the promises and declaration of belief in God are made by the adult themselves and their sponsors. We offer adult baptism, and also baptism by immersion.
Weddings & Marriages
At Cronulla & Kurnell, we care about great weddings, but we care even more about great marriages. This means that we won't just do everything we can to make your wedding day as special as possible. We'll also do everything we can, as your wedding draws near, to make your marriage as healthy as possible. For now, call the office on 9523 5124 to reserve your date and leave your contact details for the minister to contact you. Weddings generally take place on Saturdays, however any date is subject to approval by the Senior Minister and largely depend on availability/other commitments.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many people do our churches hold?
Generally St Andrew's Cronulla will hold up to 140 people comfortably, 170 using the transepts and up to 220 with additional seating arranged (and requested) prior to the day. St James Kurnell holds a comfortable total of 60 with up to 70 with additional seating (again, requested prior to the day and an additional fee may apply if seating needs to be hired).
When can we look inside the church ?
We'd love to see you at one of our Sunday services, that would be a great opportunity to meet the minister and see inside the church. Otherwise during your appointment with the minister, or you can visit St Andrew's during office hours.
How long does the ceremony take?
Approximately 45minutes. A key factor will be whether or not your wedding includes congregational singing, not forgetting planned/unplanned delays (like a late bride). Please note the minister cannot "trim" the service to make it shorter than it currently is.
Can we bring our own minister?
This will require approval of the Minister, followed by Parish Council and Wardens. If they are not an Anglican minister they will need to supply a Statement of Faith before approval is considered. But yes, where a strong relationship exists between the couple and another minister, we have permitted other ministers to conduct services at either of our churches as visiting members. When an external minister conducts the wedding they will also complete all of the necessary paperwork, so we're happy to discount this from our fee.
What are the fees for having our wedding here?
While we don't charge for our ministers time, we do require a donation towards ongoing building maintenance and administration. For St Andrew's it's $1,000.00 and St James is $750.00.
Funerals & Memorials
We facilitate funerals on site as well as local memorial parks and chapels. Most are coordinated with local funeral homes, however in the the event you would like a thanksgiving or memorial so that local friends and family can farewell a loved one resting elsewhere, we are more than happy to assist.
Facilities for visual tributes/slide-shows and our office can assist with this and service orders. Additional services can be referred, such as organists, florists, caterers and if you'd like to have an on-site gathering following the service our hall can also be hired. Please note external parties, while referred, are arranged and paid for separately.
